Guten Cabin sits on a shy acre. The property around the cabin is sloped although the land surrounding the cabin is fairly level. There are steps to get into the cabin and deck, as it is raised above the ground. During the winter, these steps get slick as the ice compacts. Sand is provided and we strongly recommend sanding the steps in the winter. The property is not well suited for someone with very limited mobility as the terrain could pose challenges.
Inside the cabin there are stairs leading to the loft. The only thing in the loft that is not found on the main floor is the TV and DVD player. The flooring in the loft and stairs are rustic and original to the cabin. Some of the floor boards have a slight warp or buckle to them. We recommend socks or slippers when on that flooring.
The main road leading to the cabin is regularly plowed in the winter. The driveway can be a challenge in the snow. We do have it snowplowed when there are accumulations but over time it compacts and can get slick. Four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive do pretty well. The other option (if it is bad) is to park at the base of the drive and walk up the drive. Although it is not ideal, we have had guests do this and it hasn’t been a problem.
Through August 2017, the road in front of the cabin is getting resurfaced and widened to include a shoulder for pedestrians. After that is complete, we will regrade our driveway with the intention of making it easier to access in the winter.
